Did You Know You Can Make Pudding Pops With Canned Peaches?

Canned fruit is inexpensive and often overlooked! Don’t forget to utilize canned fruit in your recipes. This recipe is meant for canned peaches only. You can use frozen or fresh peaches, but you will want to cook or steam them first to get the same texture.

The Ingredients

Did I mention you only need 3 ingredients?! WOOHOO! You can make these pudding pops with canned peaches and instant pudding mix. Two ingredients you might already have in your pantry–you only need to add milk to complete the trio.

  • Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix
    • In this recipe, I use vanilla instant pudding mix (make sure to use instant and NOT cook and serve pudding mix). Vanilla pudding mix is creamy and can be found almost anywhere (including ALDI). It also can be made into vegan pudding pops (see notes in the section below). However, there are A TON of pudding mixes out there! Feel free to experiment with different flavor varieties. There are so many flavors that would be good with this recipe like white chocolate, coconut, french vanilla, or cheesecake.
  • Milk
    • For the creamiest pops, you will want to use regular cow’s milk. But if you want to make these pops dairy-free you can use almond or oat milk instead. I am lactose intolerant, so I make my pudding pops with unsweetened almond milk.
  • Canned Peaches
    • Did you know that canned peaches pack just as much nutrients as fresh peaches (check out this academic article)? You won’t believe that you can make these refreshing pudding pops with canned peaches. The canned peaches are cooked, so they are softer in texture and will blend into our pops very easily. For this recipe, you will want to drain your peaches before adding them to this recipe.
  • Additions:
    • You don’t need to add any additions to this recipe, but if you want a slight almond flavor add just a drop of almond extract to your pudding pops.

Fancy Frugal Tip: What To Do with Leftover Peach Juice

In this recipe, you will need to drain the juice in the peach can. But no need to throw it out. You can save the juice and add it to homemade iced tea or lemonade for a refreshing peachy kick. Less waste & more flavor! What a win-win!

How To Make Vegan Pudding Pops

If you are using JELL-O branded instant pudding mix packets, you can see on the back of the package that the vanilla pudding mix does not contain any animal products. I have also checked the ingredients listed on the ALDI instant pudding and have found that the mix is vegan. Let me know down below in the comments if you come across other brands.

To make vegan pudding pops, you will want to use oat or almond milk as your milk of choice. Note that soy milk will not work. Soy milk will not set up pudding mixthe same as almond or oat milk does.

How to Make Peaches and Cream Pudding Pops With Canned Peaches

This is a recipe that will be in your back pocket from this day forward–it’s so easy (and interchangeable with what pudding and fruit you have on hand). This is a great recipe to get kids involved with, but be sure to assist children with the use of the blender. Follow the steps below to create these easy 3-ingredient pudding pops with canned peaches:

  • Mix milk and pudding mix in a large bowl.
  • Open up your can of peaches and drain the juice. Blend peaches in a blender until the peaches are smooth.
  • Add the blended peaches to the milk and pudding mixture and whisk together.
  • Pour mixture into 6 ice pop molds.
  • Freeze pops for at least 6 hours.

Best Tips for Pudding Pops

  • Pour the pudding mixture in the molds before the pudding begins to really firm up
    • It doesn’t take long for an instant pudding to set, and you’ll want to add your pudding pop mixture to the molds before the pudding is still a bit more “movable”.
  • Wait for your pudding pops to set
    • As someone who frequently tries to eat ice pops before they are ready, I understand that the wait is hard. But make yourself wait for at least 6 hours to ensure that the pops are set properly, and to avoid a mess. I may be speaking from some experience on this matter.
  • Run hot water over pop molds to remove them easily
    • To remove your ice pops from your mold, run the top of the ice pop mold under hot water for at least 30 seconds to loosen the pop up to remove the pudding pop cleanly.
