Trust me, this is the BEST savory sweet potato dish out there! Roasted sweet potatoes with garlic. parmesan, and butter–all prepared on an easy sheet pan. Swoon.

Move over marshmallow-topping these sweet potatoes are here to steal the show at your next holiday gathering.

This might be my most asked-for recipe! You have got to this savory sweet potato side dish.

How to Make the Best Savory Sweet Potato Dish

I am absolutely OBSESSED with this savory sweet potato dish–it’s garlic-y and parmesan-y and the perfect side dish! Oh, and its SO easy and has the easiest clean-up! (That’s the best kind of side dish!)!

  • Preheat your oven to 375ā„‰. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper for easy clean-up.
  • Peel 4 sweet potatoes and cube into 1/2-inch cubes.
  • In a large bowl, add the cubed sweet potatoes.
  • In a smaller bowl, add all of the remaining ingredients and stir until well combined.
  • Pour the topping in the smaller bowl into the larger bowl with the potatoes. Mix the potatoes with the topping until the pieces are evenly coated.
  • Dump the sweet potatoes onto the sheet pan and cook at 375ā„‰ for 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes, remove the sweet potatoes gently flip the potatoes over, and place bake in the oven for 10 more minutes.
  • Remove from the oven. Plate and sprinkle with additional parmesan if desired.

Should I Peel The Sweet Potatoes

While you don’t have to peel the potatoes, I do really suggest peeling them! The texture, presentation, and the final result is better without the peels. However, I have made these before with the peels and this recipe still works! So to peel or not to peel?

The choice is up to you!

What to Serve with your Savory Sweet Potato Dish

This Savory Sweet Potato dish goes with EVERYTHING! I like to eat this as a holiday recipe, or with brunch, or by it’s self with an egg on top! YUM! This makes a great side dish alongside your holiday meats, a brunch egg dish, or even grilled chicken.

The Ingredients

  • Sweet Potato
    • The sweet potatoes are SOOO good in this recipe. While you could swap out the sweet potatoes for regular potatoes, the sweet potatoes are SO good here.
  • Butter & Olive Oil
    • The butter and olive oil coat the sweet potatoes. I like to use a mixture of butter and olive oil because it has the best taste.
  • Garlic powder
    • I have tried minced garlic and garlic powder in this recipe. Garlic powder works a bit better, as the minced garlic can burn.
  • Oregano
    • The oregano pairs well with the parmesan and garlic in this recipe.
  • Parmesan
    • Parmesan adds the perfect nutty, savory taste. Make sure to bake the potatoes with the parmesan. We like to sprinkle a little on top of the potatoes at the end as well.

Can I Prepare this Savory Sweet Potato Dish Ahead of Time?

You can prepare this recipe ahead of time–but it will lose some of the crispiness on reheat. If you don’t mind the slight texture difference, go for it!

However, I like to prep this recipe ahead of time by preparing/chopping the potatoes ahead of time and then placing the chopped raw potatoes in the fridge. Then the day off, I quickly whip up the butter topping and bake the potatoes.
